SALES SECRET OF THE WEEK
So you have a newsletter â avoid this
Newsletters are đźđđČđđŒđșđČ but let's talk about some of the downsides. I think a lot about inversion because of Charlie Mungerâs recent passing.
Inversion is looking at your problem with the opposite framing. Instead of asking âhow do i become succesfulâ ask how you will fail, and avoid doing those things. Itâs why Buffet/Munger are quoted saying something along the lines of âshow me where I will die so i donât go thereâ
I wanted to take this same principle and apply it to starting a succesful newsletter. So here are 4 real difficulties I think anyone looking to start a newsletter should be aware of.
1. Does it feel like pulling teeth to get (and keep) subscribers?
You can generate a ton through reddit, twitter and FB for free. Once you've got momentum, experiment with paid ads and decrease your costs by using boosts/sparkloop. There are a ton of materials out here on how to grow your NL. This shouldn't hold you back but be aware it can be hard.
2. Got more freebie lovers than paid subscribers?
Yup, making money from newsletters is harder than it looks.
You can use Open Rates to sell advertisements and create a super valuable offering to convert folks to your premium NL.
3. Running out of fresh content ideas?
I have this happen a lot, it happens to the best of us; maintaining an 'idea factory' is tough. I'm struggling with this writing my own newsletter. Try to look at the content you consume, use that as inspiration.
4. Feel like there aren't enough hours in the day to manage your newsletter fully?
You're not alone, time management can be a beast. Try to hire VA's or Use tools to automate as much repetitive task as possible.

Most links are recaps of the year, i think the MFM podcast had a great yearly recap â Similarly i recommend reading the Axios article about whatâs next for chat GPT given all the lawsuits. Especially the NYT one.
